Harry C. Merritt is a historian and a Post-Doctoral Associate at the University of Vermont.

Harry completed a Ph.D. in History at Brown University in 2020. His current research interests include nationalism, collective identity, interethnic relations, and the impact of war on society. Harry’s book project traces the origins, wartime experience, and legacies of Latvians who fought in national military formations in the Soviet Union’s Red Army and in Nazi Germany’s Waffen SS.

Harry holds an M.A. in History from Brown University, an M.A. in German and European Studies from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, and a B.A. in Political Science and Russian Studies from Eckerd College. Harry’s writing has been published in Nationalities Papers, The Journal of Baltic Studies, and REGION: Regional Studies of Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia, as well as in the book, Defining Latvia: Recent Explorations in History, Culture, and Politics.
